When you drag after double-tapping, all selected troops will be directed to move to that position. Tapping a unit will keep all your selected troops intact. If your snipers are at the back, advancing all units will synchronize their movement without leaving behind the snipers in their assigned location.

Remember that you can change a unit's orientation at any time by dragging it to a new location. You can drag the unit from its original position to halt its progress if you accidentally overshoot its placement.
